A personal note
I have waited to post again on my blog until the forums became officially closed, and today is that day. To read the full story, go here. And after you read that, you can rest assured! I have replaced the forums link, which was on the left side of any page, with this one, called TALK TO OTHERS. You will see other alternatives, from another forums similar to what we had here (with some of the same mods), to groups that are excellent for patient-to-patient information (and with some of the same mods–lol). Enjoy! And I will add more as I find them–groups that have an excellent understanding of what thyroid patients have learned.
Am I sad at the closing? Very. But with me being freed from the responsibility of the forums, I now have time for my private life, AND I have time to do other things for this site, and for thyroid patient advocacy.
But do NOT think that STTM’s heart has ceased to beat simply because our forums are gone!! What propelled me to create STTM is still the ENERGY of this website: namely, a place to educate patients as to WHY they feel lousy on T4-only meds, why certain labwork has NOT worked, and other issues that a large body of thyroid patients have had to face: adrenal problems. It was also created to STOP the thyroid madness of hundreds of millions of thyroid patients!
You will continue to see new articles, updates to old ones, and other activity in the future. 🙂 And by the way, check out the SITE MAP for our new category: FAQ pages. We have an excellent one for adrenals, another one for hypopituitary, and one coming as I write this…for B-12.
Five years ago, I had a sudden episode of burning inside, nausea, shaking,panic,weakness and sweating. Symptoms have remained each day. Have seen many doctors, including 2 endocrinologists, and always told to see a Psychiatrist. I did, and I’m now on 8 meds. Just keeps a lid on, with 2 hospitalizations. Finally, found a holistic Chiropractor, had the saliva test, and found very elevated cortisol. Now beginning treatment.
Your articles have been so helpful in reassuring me that there can be healing. Also, no one ever heard of the terrible burning inside, so reading your experience of the same symptom, tells me I’m not crazy. (One doctor said I had acid reflux. Puuulease!) Thank you, thank you.

Janie, I’ve been so busy getting the new site set up (I’m not finished yet, of course!) that I haven’t been in to read your blog until just now.
I want to thank you for the STTM site, and the opportunity to moderate in the forums from the very beginning. This change truly is bittersweet. I’m sad that we’re finished with the forums here, but starting anything new is exciting!
I’m glad that you will now have time for yourself! And I do look forward to additions to STTM–you’ve been doing a GREAT job!!!

I just want to thank you for all the information contained here. I knew I couldn’t be the only person fighting this battle. I haven’t won the battle yet either, but I’m winning more and more skirmishes with my doctor. Sad thing is, I’m not just fighting for myself now, I’m fighting for two of my children too who have both been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Thank you thank you thank you for providing more ammunition that wasn’t just me trying to describe how I felt and how I just knew it was thyroid related even if it didn’t match what their bloodwork showed! 🙂
Janie — I have very much enjoyed the forums; information as well as camaraderie. While I do understand the demands of owning a site, the recent closing of STTM forums is a bit bittersweet. However, I do want to thank YOU and the moderators for the generous and very unselfish giving of advice, experience and education. My wishes to all for a wonderful life full of happiness, lots of love and good health.
