Finally! The 2011 REVISED SECOND EDITION of the Stop the Thyroid Madness book!

YEEHAW!!

Three years ago this month, the book Stop the Thyroid Madness: A Patient Revolution Against Decades of Inferior Treatment came out with quiet fanfare–a complete patient-to-patient book chock full of information based on the successful experience of thyroid patients worldwide. As the messenger of that information, I had a strong purpose: to create INFORMED patients who can then demand change in their doctors offices. Pro-active patients! Educated patients!

But the reaction to it wasn’t quiet!

Thyroid patients have reported it was changing their lives. To date, the STTM book has been sent, and in multiple copies, to Antiqua/ Barbuda, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, and the UK. That doesn’t include the high volume amount of copies sent to US patients, doctors, and individuals in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Amazingly, yet not surprisingly, patients were discovering new information even a few months after the First Edition was published three years ago. As a result, Laughing Grape Publishing LLC had to add, and continually update, a bookmark of updated information into all its books ordered directly from the publishing company.

Today, in the REVISED SECOND EDITION, all that extra patient information has been added, plus a LOT more.

  • 36 more pages, by and for patients, plus changes & additions in every single chapter
  • Much more detail on adrenal and HPA dysfunction and how to treat it
  • Recognizing and dealing with Reverse T3
  • Identifying and treating gluten issues as related to Hashimotos disease
  • Iodine-use information in relation to hypothyroid, breast disease, Hashimotos, adrenal dysfunction, etc.
  • More details on labwork preparation, plus what to look for in your results
  • Why you need more than ferritin testing, and details on iron testing
  • Updated information on brands of desiccated thyroid throughout the world, T3-only products, hydrocortisone, and more
  • A completely NEW CHAPTER on supplements & foods which thyroid patients appreciate and use!

And, the price has been kept exactly the same. Our loss; your gain, in the name of an important movement of needed education and change!

This was NOT an easy book to revise! I had to go through it with a fine-toothed comb, removing some information, correcting other information, adding a lot more…besides working on making it more readable. I am not a writer by profession. Sometimes I felt like a “cuckoo’s nest mental case” trying to balance the work on the Revised edition with my other activist responsibilities and a busy private life. Is it perfect? Nope. But as I stated in the First, some information is right on target, some is at least close to the bulls-eye, and other info will fall into place as we continue to learn. That’s why you need to see it as “guide” of patient experience, and to use it to become PROACTIVE in your relationship with your doctor and the entire medical profession.

Today, you can order either copy. As of today, the First Edition has been lowered to 14.95 until supplies run out, which will be soon. The Revised Second Edition is taking pre-orders, and it looks like books will start being sent out in about 7-10 days.

You can go here to see a stand-alone website about the book, as well as here to be among the first to pre-order your copy.

THE STTM BOOK IN OTHER LANGUAGES

Yes, you will eventually be seeing the Revised Second Edition in various languages. That’s in the works right now, and no, I don’t yet know the dates. I’ll announce that here, so be sure and be signed up for this BLOG NOTIFICATION to the left under the links.

KINDLE and E-BOOKS

With no projected dates other than much later this year, you will first see an E-book. Later, we’ll be looking at Kindle. Again, announcements will be made, and you’ll have to be patient. In the meantime, ordering the book is your best choice right now. Besides, having this book in your lap in the doctor’s office is powerful to many of them, since doctors can have silly thoughts about “internet” information.

And more is coming which will be announced as they occur. 🙂

I just ordered the revised edition of Stop The Thyroid Madness directly from your website… mainly because I hope delivery will be soon!! Amazon sellers have a 1-3 week delivery and I need this book way sooner than that. Hopefully before all my extensive blood work is scheduled!! What is your delivery expectations to Arizona?

Lyle, there are two companies involved in shipping the STTM book when ordering from Laughing Grape Publishing (LGP): 1) the publishing company 2) USPS. The publishing company always gets most orders to the Post Office system in 48 hours from receiving the order (and sometimes 24 hours or less!!). i.e. it’s MUCH better than Amazon at that.

After LGP gets it to the PO, it’s in the hands of USPS and LGP can’t predict that. But it appears to get to most destinations in 3 days and less if you use Priority. Occasionally, up to 5 days, but not as common as the 3 days or less. Media can take much longer.

Janie would you like an update for my story. I am getting my adrenals extremely well addressed and I learned I was born with a small thyroid that could have caused my autism.

Since I’m back home and able to read your website better:

I’m definately going to get your book(s). My question is you mention a lot about hypo thyroid. In my above situation I was severely her thyroid. Does your book go into that at all?

          • Janie Bowthorpe

Paul, STTM website and books are only for hypothyroidism instead of active Graves disease….assuming you mean the latter. If you had Graves but finally became hypo, then the books are for you. i.e. for your now-hypo state.

      • Paul

        Thanks!!!!!

        Glad u answered

So would you still agree that as being hyper and having thyroid removed that natural is still better than synthroid?

Btw weight has gone up since thyroid was removed. Not sure if I’m “hypo” or not

        • Janie Bowthorpe

If we are still hyper, no, thyroid meds wouldn’t be good, we’ve discovered. We have to wait until we are hypo. But when hypo, NDT seems to give the best results. I’m not sure by your post where you are.

            I’m confused now

Would your books be helpful? Are natural meds still better than synthroid?

            I’m In Atlanta btw

          • Janie Bowthorpe

Hi Paul. lol. The problem for me is how you described yourself–hyper. That’s more of a state a body is in. So if your body was in hyper mode, you wouldn’t technically be hypothyroid. A hyper state would mean you have high free T3 or free T4, anxiety, high heartrate, weight loss, tremors. Do you have those?? Perhaps you simply mean you’ve had Graves disease, and are now hypothyroid. If the latter is true, it’s confusing to call yourself hyper. lol. So if you are now fully in a hypo-thyroid state, yes, patients have found natural thyroid hormones far more helpful in removing hypo than Synthroid. 🙂

        • Paul

          Thanks

Yeah back in 2007 I was diagnosed as hyper-thyroid. Once my thyroid was nuked all that weight (plus some) came back.

My new doc is putting me on natural meds

Ide be more than happy to privately send my lab results ( all or just the thyroid related ones)

Any updates regarding the availability of an e-book? I’ve been digital for so long now, it just seems archaic to go back to carrying an actual book around. Thanks so much!

Do you give an information to help us find an actual doc that will believe in this and help treat us?

    To Caterina:

LDN is Low Dose Naltrexone. It is a groundbreaking treatment for autoimmune diseases like hashimotos, multiple sclerosis and lupus. It helps “reset” the immune system. For more information check out lowdosenaltrexone.org

    Janie…

This FABULOUS NEWS!! I’m definitely going to order your revised book!!! I’ve been on desiccated thyroid for ’bout 3 years now. It’s been an up hill climb, with adrenal issues, Armour’s reformulation (thank goodness for ERFA!) then menopause. I’ve gained forty extra pounds, on top of the forty extra pounds I’ve been trying to lose for years, that I DON’T NEED. But, without you, I’d still be limping along on either synthroid or otc glandulars. I’m slowly getting the pieces nailed down. I just recently started taking gabepentin for my sciatica and I am finally getting close to restorative sleep, the hot flashes have been taken care with pregnenolone and otc topical progesterone and estriol (gentle pharmacy). My adrenals are getting stronger, not well yet. Thank you for being that beacon of light for so many of us sick hypothyroid people.

BTW… The blog link on the side of your page has disappeared (once you get past your new home page).

ALSO, when will your revised book be available on AMAZON?

AND….What about some NEW bumper stickers?

(From Janie: Thanks for letting me know about the blog link missing. I don’t know about Amazon, but rest assured that they will be working with my distributor soon, I expect. I LIKE the current bumper stickers!!! lol. (Lots of new things coming).

Does it include information on LDN and more info. on Erfa? Since last November, when I started LDN I’ve been able to reduce my Erfa from 3 grains to 1.5 grains. Thank you Janie for all your hard work. I truly appreciate everything you’ve done to educate the public and I can’t wait to get the new book!

(From Janie: LDN in the Hashi’s chapter and Erfa in desiccated chapter plus addendum.

Does it include anything on T3 only medications because I am seriously thinking about going on one here?

    (From Janie: Yes, a lot.)

No….. not having a kindle version is a cop out…. my doc doen’t think that the kindle is the internet, he thinks it’s a kindle…..

I would willingly pay upfront and order the kindle version, but I don’t want more clutter around my house in the form of books…..

    G.

(From Janie: are you having a bad day and need a dog to kick? lol. The real cop out would have been me not taking the immense amount of stress and time it took to get this revised edition done, especially when I knew it was sorely needed with all the updates patients had learned. It was an immense amount of work and I DREADED getting started on it. But I did and got through it. Hang in there. Things come in their right time. There is still MUCH to do on this end, which I know you don’t understand.)
